What is Guest Week?
During your apprenticeship, you will bring in a guest to 1) enhance student learning through interaction with knowledgeable adults and bring your subject matter alive 2) engage more community members in investing in student achievement 3) if each Citizen Teacher could reach one future Citizen Teacher, our students would have a real second shift of educators.
The key to a great apprenticeship is planning ahead! Use this 10 Week WOW! Planning document to help you map out your 10 weeks of lessons including learning objectives and 21st century skills. Sometimes it’s easier to start planning backwards and begin with the WOW! What do you want students to be able to do at the end of the semester? What will students need to do each week to finish their WOW! product, performance, or presentation? Be sure to work with your Team Leader when filling out this document. Don’t worry, you are not alone in teaching your apprenticeship. Citizen Schools provides you with resources both in and out of the classroom. The two most important resources are your staff partner and CT Nation, our online community for Citizen Teachers. You will also receive direct training and a budget for any necessary supplies. Our staff will work with you to find any other resources, so be sure to communicate those needs ahead of time, i.e. computer access, video cameras, etc. and think about how your own network can be used as a resource in your apprenticeship.
