WOW! It’s that time of the year again!  Citizen Schools’ students, staff, and volunteers are ready to WOW! you, your friends, and colleagues in the next few weeks.  One of the most important ways you can support Citizen Schools and our fabulous apprentices’ accomplishments is to attend or volunteer at a WOW!  So get out your monthly planners and show our apprentices some love by adding one of the dates below to your social calendar!  And don’t forget to bring your favorite friend or colleague!  Find the closest WOW! near you below…

Show Me The Money!: Citizen Teachers from AllianceBernstein led a finance apprenticeship with students in the Bronx.  At the WOW!, these students will showcase their learning, acting as financial planners who will help guests choose a bank, calculate interest, and explore credit options.

McCann Erickson: AdLab:  Students from East Harlem have worked with McCann Erickson Citizen Teachers to design, modify, and ultimately showcase their public service announcements before a live audience of marketing professionals.

NBC’s iVillage Three WOW!s In One!:

1) Team Twilight-Citizen Teachers from iVillage taught students in the Bronx the analytical and creative strategies used in advertising.  Students used this knowledge to create advertising campaigns to promote the movie, Twilight, and will present their work to a professional advertising team.

2) Best of 2010 -Working with iVillage professionals, students learned how to put together an award show. They selected nominees, created a website to facilitate the voting process, made videos to showcase the categories and planned the award presentations. At the WOW!, students will teachback what they learned from their respective roles.

3) iVoices -With the guidance of iVillage journalists, students learned how to write and film their own news stories on subjects that matter to them. For the WOW!, they will premiere their stories and discuss the behind-the-scenes process of newscasting.

Calling All Entrepreneurs!: With the support of AllianceBernstein volunteers, students created their own business (Fudge Monster Chocolate Co.). They marketed and sold their chocolate bars at AllianceBernstein. For the WOW!, they will pitch their business plan to a live audience and board of investors!
