Valerie combines a curiosity for communities with a passion for law

Valerie Schneider’s interest in youth education started early. In high school, she started volunteering at a Framingham homeless shelter for recovering addicts and their children, and was eventually hired to help run summer programs for the children. Her experience at the shelter “helped spark my dual interest in education and community development through affordable housing.” Valerie’s real passion has always been exploring communities – from residential neighborhoods to classrooms – and she has been able to follow this interest from Citizen Schools to her current position as a lawyer at Goulston and Storrs. As a TF, she discovered communities through the school systems, field trips, engaging with families, and working with Citizen Teachers. As a lawyer, she has been able to examine the physical structures of a community through her focus on affordable housing development in Boston. Valerie hopes to combine the skills she gained as a lawyer and as a Teaching Fellow in the education field. Continue reading
